What Is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
SEO stands for “Search Engine Optimization”. It is the process of designing, coding, planning, updating, or simply editing content, images and videos in a website so that search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo can display it organically “Free” in search results. Optimizing a website may involve editing its images, videos and content, and associated coding to increase its relevance to specific keywords and geographical regions.
SEO is simply a matter of making sure your website is well structured and organized in a way that search engines can understand. Some ways of performing SEO are but no limited to:
- Relevant content writing (words in your website)
- Organization of your content (headings, paragraphs, and images)
- Link structure
- Image optimization
- Content Density (The number of words your website page contains.)
Search engine searches generate most of the traffic to website nowadays. If search engines cannot read, understand or even find your website, you miss out on incredible opportunities to drive traffic to your website and your competitors may be the ones getting all the traffic and making conversions and sales.

How to do Basic SEO?
To understand what SEO does for a website, we will cover some basic steps that at minimum should be covered for your website to be considered for search engines. There are 2 main foundations for SEO, HTML tags and content optimization.

Page Title – Title Tag
The title tag on pages of your website tells search engines what the page is about. It should be 70 characters or less and include your business or brand name and keywords that relate to that specific page only.
The meta description on pages of your website gives search engines a little more insight into what your page is about. It should be around 160 characters or less.
This tag “describes” in keywords terms the main content of the webpage.
Content is what your web page should include with text and images. Content should include at least 300 words or more and at least 1-2 images. Content should include heading tags and paragraph tags with important relevant keywords. There is a great debate about the number of words per web page. Some agree on a minimum of 300, some say it should be 500 and some say that at least 1000.
The best way to optimize images in a web page is to make sure that the images are relevant and compelling and make sense of what its being discussed in the content.
Keywords used in text and within certain elements provide clues as to the context of the page. Overusing this technique is known as keyword stuffing and it is considered by all major search engines as spam. Essentially keyword phrases play a large role in the organization of a page. They greatly influence how search engines extract relationships and determine rankings.
In a nutshell SEO covers are broader aspect, however anyone interested in having a successful website should consider having a strong SEO game.
